About The Military Financial Readiness Objective (TMFRO)

The Military Financial Readiness Objective (TMFRO) is the parent organization and governing body of the Military Qualified Financial Planner (MQFP®) Certification Program.

Incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia, TMFRO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the financial lives of U.S. service members, veterans, and their families. As a public charity, our primary mission is to ensure that those who serve our country have access to highly qualified, ethical, and fiduciary financial advice.

Our Mission and Purpose

TMFRO was established to bridge the gap between complex military benefits and professional financial planning. We believe that military families face unique financial challenges that require specialized knowledge of both military/veteran benefits and military lifestyle.

The organization fulfills its mission by:

  • Setting and maintaining the rigorous standards for the MQFP® designation.

  • Providing authoritative resources to financial professionals to improve their military-specific competency.

  • Advocating for fee-only fiduciary standards to protect the military community from predatory financial practices.

Governance and Oversight

As a 501(c)(3) organization, TMFRO is governed by a Board of Directors. The board is composed of subject matter experts in military finance, veteran advocates, and experienced financial professionals.

Our governance structure ensures that the MQFP® certification remains:

  • Independent: TMFRO does not sell financial products, nor is it affiliated with any brokerage or insurance company.

  • Merit-Based: Certification is awarded based on demonstrated knowledge, military experience, and adherence to ethical standards.

  • Mission-Driven: All revenue generated from certification fees and dues is reinvested into the program and initiatives that support the financial readiness of military and veteran families.

The MQFP® Certification Program

The MQFP® Certification is the signature program owned and administered by TMFRO. To ensure the integrity of the designation, TMFRO mandates the following requirements for all certificate holders:

Requirement Description
Prerequisites Must hold a qualifying foundational credential (CFP®, AFC®, CFA®, ChFC®, CPA, or JD) and have a personal military affiliation.
Examination Successful completion of a 100-question exam covering 24 military-specific knowledge areas.
Ethics Attestation to a Fee-Only Fiduciary Standard and a clean disciplinary record.
Continuing Education Mandatory completion of 4 hours of military-specific CE annually to maintain proficiency.

Public Accountability and Disciplinary Process

TMFRO maintains a strict Code of Ethics and Professional Standards. We are committed to transparency and consumer protection.

  • Public Verification: Members of the public can verify the status of any MQFP® professional directly through our Verified Professional Directory.

  • Complaints: TMFRO receives and investigates complaints against MQFP® designees. If a professional is found to have violated the Fiduciary Standard or our Professional Standards, TMFRO reserves the right to suspend or permanently revoke the use of the MQFP® marks.
