MQFP Prerequisites
A Military Qualified Financial Planner – MQFP counsels, coaches, advises, educates, and collaboratively plans with their clients to help them succeed with their financial challenges. A MQFP guides military and veteran families through the resources and mechanics of personal financial literacy while helping them understand the behaviors and emotions that could affect their money management. They empower and support clients as an accountability partner.
Professional prerequisites: MQFP candidates must have at least one of the following professional certifications or credentials:
- CFP®
- AFC®
- CFA®
- ChFC®
- CPA
- Licensed to practice law by a state Bar Association.
Experience prerequisites: MQFP candidates must meet all the following criteria
- Military experience as a servicemember, veteran, military spouse, or military ex-spouse.
- Service members must have a satisfactory performance record as determined by their evaluations, and will not be under any disciplinary actions by their chain of command.
- Veterans must have a service characterization of Honorable, General, or Other Than Honorable. Bad Conduct Discharges and Dishonorable Discharges are not eligible.
- No felony convictions for violent crime or financially-related crimes.
- No revocation or suspension of other financial certifications or licenses, unless administratively by the individual deciding not to renew them.
